BIO:


Derrick Belmar story began on November 28, 1991, in Indianapolis, IN. As a child, he was singing in church at the age of 8. That’s when he knew wanted to become a singer. Singing and performing has always been a passion of his. He grew up hearing all types of music being played all over his house. His parents would blast music and they would sing and dance. He also remembers watching his idols like Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Selena, just to name a few. He was so amazed by how well they would get on that stage, perform and put on a big show. He knew then that he wanted to be in the spotlight just as much as they were. At age 8, he wrote part of his first single “I CAN BE YOUR HERO”. He thought it was really impressive, especially coming from an 8-year-old!


Over the years, he has had opportunities to do talent shows which were fun experiences and finally allowed him to be in that spotlight that he always wanted and loved. By 2008, he got back to writing and completed the entire song “I CAN BE YOUR HERO”. He was going to record it, but it just wasn’t in God’s plan yet, so he put it down AGAIN for 10 years. Within those years, his family found out his mother had lung cancer and was in the last stage of it. It was just heartbreaking! He was her caretaker for 2 months and in 2011 she passed away. All of this heartbreak and heartache inspired him to pursue his music again. He promised his mom in her last days on earth, that he was going to be a singer and she was going to tell everybody in heaven about her son.


In the same year of 2011, he became the caretaker for his oldest sister due to her suffering from lupus for 5 years.  In the last few months of 2011, he found out his father was diagnosed with bone cancer.  He passed away in 2015, which also was very heartbreaking. He became depressed and said he was done with singing and music. He was deeply hurt and felt that no one understood what he was going through or than no one could possibly know all the pain he was feeling. Then one day, he had a conversation with God that changed his life. 

He asked God “Why am I still here? I lost both of my parents. I took care of everybody else, and I just feel drained and tired.” I believe God responded to me and said “YOU ARE HERE - TO SING and nobody can sing like you! “That’s the gift God gave him and from that day on, his life has changed completely!



MUSIC BACKGROUND:


My music background began in 2015 when I was introduced to my new church choir director Ethan Burnett. Yet still around this time, I lost my confidence and didn’t believe in myself anymore. Brother Ethan continued to push me to lead singing because had seen something in me that I didn't see anymore. One Tuesday (I remember like it was yesterday), he said “Derrick you're going to sing lead on Sunday and you're going to be singing THERE’S NO GOD LIKE JEHOVAH” I said to Brother Ethan, “No I can’t do it”.  He said, “Yes you can! You will get up there and sing because I know you can do it!” So of course, I prayed about it and got up there and did what I was supposed to do. It turned out really good and I was actually proud of myself. I could tell Brother Ethan was proud of me as well!  


Eventually we started talking about music and how I wanted to start recording my own songs. I started telling him about this guy who was trying to have me sign contracts just to use his studio and beats. In the back of my head I’m already thinking, this doesn’t sound right whatsoever!  So, Ethan said, “Well Derrick, how about you send me the acapella track?’, and I did. In 2016, Ethan sent me the sample of the track, and it just blew me away! He really took it and ran with it. He made the melody sound just like it had come out of my head! He brought it to life and it just sound so amazing!  It was exactly what I wanted! After hearing it, I had to go back and change some of the lyrics because at this point of my life (I was almost 25), I felt I was a bit too old to be talking about a crush, it's time for marriage material.


He finally started recording the song in December of 2016.  Ethan was taking time out to work with him and to teach him how to become a better singer and songwriter. He remembers one time during one their sessions when Ethan came up with a part for the bridge. He thought it was really something that sounded good. Ethan listened but told him something was missing. He came up with something so quick! Derrick loved it and told him let’s use that, it sounds perfect! He was just amazed because not only is he an amazing producer, but he’s also an amazing songwriter. It was just so good to have another songwriter there who is honest and can tell you the truth.


We completed the song in 2017, or so I thought.  Ethan came back to me and said he didn't like how he did the beat and wanted to change it. After hearing the way, he changed it, i thought it definitely made it sound so much better than I thought it could be. I really appreciate him for that.  Ethan also told me we wouldn’t be putting this sound out until I gave it my all. He continued to help develop the artist in me until I got it right. In March of 2018, we actually finished with the entire song. I could hardly believe it was finally completed! It just felt like my baby had finally grown up!  I'm just so proud to be releasing it to the world! This is the title track off my album that I'm working on, and it should be released by the end of this year 2019.  This song grew up with me and it will always have a very special place in my heart. This is the very first song I’ve written and the very first song God gave to me!

On June 1,2023, Derrick Release Jupiter Moon which now have become one of his biggest songs and has taken him new heights in his career with worldwide radio airplay and millions of listeners who have now heard the song around the world he is really living his dream now and he is so honored and bless what God has provided for him. Without GOD he wouldn't have made it this far with the extraordinary gifts GOD gave him. Derrick never once gave up!
